The 2006 Celler Mas Doix Salanques is a Spainish Priorat from a region considered to be the birthplace of Spain’s most elite wines. Just 2 hours from Barcelona, Priorat is located in southern Catalunya. It has unique geography, and earth laced with “licorella”; a slate-and-quartzite soil that gives a distinct mineral quality to it’s red wines. Garnacha and Cariñena grapes grown on old vines are native to this region and make up the majority of this blend. It’s aroma and flavors are expressive, fresh & concentrated with tart red fruit, vanilla and cedar, and a soft hint of spice on the finish. Some wines are made with unique character that you can pinpoint, even years after drinking them. This is one of them. –JT
